Chapter Athens, Greek Mythica, Spring - 2955 Words

Chapter A: Pelagios Athens, Greek Mythica, Spring Pelagios! His mentor s voice echoed across the streets leading to the docks. Pelagios was dashing through the streets in an effort to lose his pursuer - his mentor Chiron, and escape successfully to the beach and fish carefreely. Stepping carefully around a puddle tainted with horse manure, Pelagios looked back. He was torn between his duty and the urgent desire - no, need, to fish. Although it might sound silly to some, it made him feel closer to his father. And during times like these, he really needed that. Lately the gods have been silent. Demigods haven t gotten any prayers answered from them or signs or anything. It was if the gates to Olympus had completely been shut and had no intention of opening soon - if ever, again. The demi-god meetings Chiron had recently insisted every demi-god attend bored him to tears. Each one he d been to followed the exact same path. A group of self-important youngsters, clearly fond of the sound of their own voices - especially the children of Apollo - made interminable speeches about how Diaeus s actions in Egyptian Mythica were exceeding the remit granted to him. According to them, he did not have the authority to manage diplomatic relationships with Egyptian Mythica. C hiron, his mentor, Sophia, his sister, along with Alexandra, Diaeus s sister, who supported Diaeus publicly - except for Chiron, who supported him privately, said little or nothing until the campers had fallen

Critical Evaluation Mark Twains The Damned Human Race...

Critical Evaluation: Mark Twains The Damned Human Race At the turn of the 20th century, Mark Twain took on a mission to disprove Darwins theory that, through evolution; man has ascended from the lower animals. Mr. Twain believed that man actually de-evolved and are the lesser species - descending from the higher animals and spent many grueling months studying the subject. Whether this is a valid argument, seems to be one of opinion, as it is rumored that the author was struggling with financial ruin and the loss of his family. When studying the essay, the reader cant help but notice that Mr. Twains personal feelings run rampant throughout the paper. The author begins his study by reiterating that, even though all are†¦show more content†¦He also asserts that man is the only animal that can be considered obscene, vulgar and indecent. He offers examples of men keeping harems, such as roosters, yet the female human is enslaved whereas the chicken relishes in the position. He states that man is the only animal that has feelings and actions that include revenge, cruelty, war and slavery. In studying and evaluating this essay, one cant help but be reminded that the author was publically grieving for the loss of his wife and the previous deaths of three of his children. The only child to survive the author was his youngest, Clara. Having this knowledge, the reader cant help but question the devastating loss of his family and his apparent financial ruin, as setting the tone of this paper. Twain biographer Van Wyck Brooks, and most other biographers, agreed that the pessimistic cynicism was attributed to his finanical and family woes. Brooks believed though, that Twains life was no more difficult than others; even leading an enviable life. (Brooks) He gives the explanation that his pessimism stems from Twains frustrated artist mentality. He asserts that Twain longed to write timeless, serious works of literature but ended up as a mere humorist, storyteller, businessman, and celebrity. Could this be true - that Mark Twain regretted his participation in modern literature? Marketing Reserach Free Essays

Question â€Å"Marketing Research† Respond to the following: . -Of the marketing research tools identified in the textbook, evaluate those that would be most appropriate for a small business. Textbook=[Iacobucci, D. We will write a custom essay sample on Marketing Reserach or any similar topic only for you Order Now (2012). MM, 2nd Edition. Mason, Ohio: Cengage Learning] -When it comes to marketing research, speculate to the blunders that beginning marketers commonly make. Provide a rationale with your response. Answer :- Market research is an effective way to learn about potential customers, their opinions, habits, trends and future plans. It is used to determine the geographic area of a business and demographic characteristics of customers such as age, gender, income and educational level. Marketing research helps a firm identify and solve problems, identify and evaluate market opportunity and develop the effort needed to exploit it. Steps of the Marketing Research Process 1. Identify and Define the Problem/Opportunity – This is the first step in finding a solution; a poor diagnosis will lead to an ineffective solution. 2. Conduct a Preliminary Exploration – Confirming a rejection, the problem as stated by the decision maker is a crucial phase of the research project. In order to do this the researcher must talk to knowledgeable persons both inside and outside the firm. This often gives the researcher a new perspective on the problem. 3. Determine Research Objectives – The earlier steps have given the researcher a better understanding of the problem, and he or she can now begin to formulate hypothesis to fit it. Hypothesis are tentative explanations of a problem, formulated on the basis of weight and knowledge about the problem. The hypothesis may prove to be either right or wrong. 4. Determine Data Needs – Researcher use primary and secondary data. Primary data are originated and collected for a specific problem. They must be generated by original research through observation and/or inquiry. The advantage of such data is that they relate specifically to the problem at hand. In gathering them, new problem may be uncovered and the focus of the research project sharpened. The main disadvantages are the cost and time required to collect them. Secondary data already exist, they are historical data gathered by people either inside or outside the firm to meet their needs. If those needs are similar to the researcher’s needs secondary data can be useful. Although they are cheaper and faster to collect than primary data, their relevance, accuracy, credibility and timeliness must be established before they can be used. 5. Determine Data Sources – The major internal source of primary data is company personals, Retailers, wholesales, customers and competitors are important external sources of primary data. Knowing what primary data are needed gives an indication of who might have them. The major internal source of secondary data is company records. Libraries, trade associations and government publications are important external sources of secondary data. 6. Create the Research Design – The research design specifies the overall framework and the specific procedures for collecting and analyzing the data. This is the most important step in the research process. Research Design can be classified by function and by methodology. Functional Categories – (a). Exploratory Research. (b). Descriptive Research (c). Casual Research (d). Predictive Research. Methodological Research – (a). Historical (b) Survey (c) Experimental (d) Motivational 7. Collect the Data – Once the researcher has determined data needs, data sources, and the framework and procedures to collect and analyze them, the problem becomes one of searching for and securing data. In collecting data, the researcher implements the research design. For secondary data, a good understanding of internal and external sources is necessary. Primary data, however , must be collected through observation and inquiry. 8. Analyses Data and Convert to Information – The data that have been collected according to the research design must be analyzed and interpreted. This leads the researcher to either accept or reject the research hypothesis After coding and editing, data are analyzed. This involves descriptive responses, calculating averages etc. in order to convert raw data into an understandable form for the purpose of interpreting the data. Tabulation, for example, involves arranging the data in a table, graph, or other summery format to facilitate their interpretation. More sophisticated data analysis techniques may also be used as the research moves beyond the description of the data to sophisticated statistical analysis of them. Cross tabulation is often used to show how variable relates to another variable. 9. Communicate the Information – Communicating research findings to decision makers is a crucial step in a research project because the project will be a failure if the results are not communicated effectively. Among the criteria for judging the quality of a research report are completeness, organization, understandability, interest level, accuracy, clarity, conciseness include : specific sections of the report typically (a) Title page (b) Table of contents (c)Executive summery (d) Introduction (e) Body (f) Conclusions and recommendations and (g) Appendices. A) Premillennialism, in Christian eschatology, is the belief that Jesus will physically return to the earth before the Millennium. This return is referred to as the Second Coming. It is distinct from the other forms of Christian eschatology such as postmillennialism or amillennialism , which view the millennial rule as occurring either before the second coming, or as being figurative and non-temporal. For the last century, the belief has been common in Evangelicalism. Premillennialism is based upon a citation of the New Testament which describes Jesus' coming to the earth and subsequent reign at the end of an apocalyptic period of tribulation. Premillennialism is often used to refer specifically to those who adhere to the beliefs in an earthly millennial reign of Christ as well as a rapture of the faithful coming before or after the tribulation preceding the millennium Q) What challenges were faced by Catholic immigrants face and why were they viewed this way? Learning to speak English, finding a job, finding a place to live. Immigrants tended to bunch up in an area so they would be surrounded by familiar culture and language. Each group of immigrants faced the same problems as they arrived. They had to learn a whole new language in order to get a job. They faced racism as well. The Italians and Irish were targeted in particular. The people who were already here thought that the Italians and Irish were a lower class of people. Just like the black slaves faced in earlier years here. When they would go to a business to apply for a job they would see signs in the front windows of certain places "No Italian or Irish need apply". Asthma Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Asthma - Essay Example Industrialization has not only influenced lifestyles, environmental changes but also predisposed alteration in genes as individuals are now exposed to numerous environmental agents encompassing tobacco, smoke, pollen etc (Gilmour et al., 2006). These factors contributed to the augmented frequency of asthma. According to Umetsu and Dekruyff (2006), numerous research studies reveal that avid T-helper 2 (Th2)- driven responses results in asthma proliferation. CD4+ T cells making Th2 cytokines play an imperative role in lungs of asthma patients. The chief reason is interleukin-4 (IL-4) and IL-13 augments the level of (immunoglobulin E) IgE whereas IL-4, IL-9 and IL-10 augment mast cell proliferation, IL-5 enhances eosinophil accretion while IL-9 and IL-13 directly cause mucus hyper-secretion and airway hyperactivity (Umetsu and Dekruyff, 2006). These studies highlight the fact that allergy and asthma are compound genetic attributes, however in the proliferation of asthma numerous environmental factors encompassing allergens and pollutants play an imperative role. These act as stimulating factors and trigger genes to influence the propagation of asthma. It is evident that every individual is exposed to the allergens and other triggering agents but the condition of asthma is observed only in some sensitive individuals, underlining the importance of interaction between environmental and genetic factors in the development of asthma condition. Other preventive mechanism involves immunological factors that play the necessary role in preventing allergic and asthma condition needs further exploration (Umetsu and Dekruyff, 2006). Signs & Symptoms Coughing, wheezing, congestion or tightness in chest and difficulty in breathing or shortness of breath. Etiology According to Yeatts et al., (2006), reports are available displaying numer ous windows of exposure present the onset of asthma condition. These conditions may be witnessed right from the fetal stage in utero condition, which is directly influenced by the timing of T-cell memory programming as well as genetic predispositions to such conditions especially in case of atopic parents because of underdeveloped immune system of the fetus. Maternal smoking (includes nicotine and carbon monoxide which diminishes blood cytokine levels, stiffens the uteroplacental circulation and augments the discharge of catecholamines, a direct implication on fetal breathing movements), consumption of alcohol during pregnancy drastically influence the development of asthma, followed by the condition of obstetric complications and elective cesarean section. Asthma during childhood is attributed in 80% of the cases to genetic susceptibility where males show 2-4 times greater frequency as compared to the females. In adults asthma is attributed to the environmental conditions, lifestyl e, smoking habit and occupational hazard. As the age progresses exposure to environmental conditions and also occupational hazard increases which may augment the chances of asthma proliferation (Yeatts et al., 2006). According to Khetsuriani et al, (2008), there is a relationship between human rhinovirus (HRV) and asthma. Molecular characterization methodology was adopted in the study to examine HRVs in asthma cases.

People criterion: GPL to value its people and create a culture that allows the mutuality beneficial achievements, developing the capability of people and promote fairness and equality by the following: Define clearly the people level of performance which required achieving the strategic goals. Align people plans with the strategic goals. Develop people’s skills and competencies to ensure their future mobility and employability. Understand the communication needs of their people and use a proper tools and strategies to maintain that. 3.2 Define resources, tools and systems to support business processes in a strategic quality change. (A.C 3-2) Resources, tools and systems required to implement the setup plan by applying some of the EFQM Excellence Model’s criteria are very limited as GPL has own quality system and resources. Additional resources, tools and systems listed below: Well known EFQM quality specialist (from the existing team, to get EFQM training). Market economic researcher (from the existing team or can be newly hired). HR specialist (from the existing team). Scoring sheet. Analysis and trend program (Microsoft Excel can be used). Training Calendar for all employees. Site visit Calendar for top management and EFQM specialist. Audit program. Training program which align with the strategic targets 3.3 Evaluate the wider implications of planned strategic quality change in an organization. (A.C3-3) Two criteria were selected to be implemented as a short term plan, to be the start of implementing the EFQM Excellence Model. To support GPL achieve their strategic goal, to become a  £200M business by 2020. Strategy and people criteria selected to be implemented to help GPL to be on the track of achieving the target and to find out any gaps or potential threat. People as explained before are the core and the engine of GPL business; the plan was setup to assure that they are aligned with GPL strategy goals and to achieve their satisfaction. 3.4 Design systems to monitor the implementation of a strategic quality change in an organisation. (A.C 3-4) Scoring sheet for each criterion designed to evaluate the success of implementation, to follow up and take the required correction preventive action as the following: Zero to 11: require an immediate corrective action and recovery plan. 12 to 23: require a motivation and preventive action in addition to recovery plan. 24 to 28: result to be populated and participants to be honoured. 4.1 Implement a strategic quality change in an organisation. (A.C 4 -1) Strategy criterion: The management team determine the market and product sales strategies, targets and goals. Each director summaries this in a â€Å"Market Signals† report for their business area, incorporating feedback from the UK market. Bi-annually, input is gathered from group management in form of a target letter. This letter includes broad sales and cost targets that drive GPL’s overall business objectives. The board of directors meets quarterly with GPL to review the direction and plan the strategy going forward. Company goals are communicated at the company conference and published via their internal communication system. Each division develops their own strategy map to translate these objectives into specific actions. Based on the strategy map, annual plans and budget, GPL develop a set of KPIs as a tool to be used to review their progress against their goals. People criterion: Bi-annual survey, managed globally by Grundfos Group, which is completed by individuals anonymously. Themes include: employees satisfaction, motivation, loyalty, personal development and pay terms. It also asks for opinions on management, daily work and colleague relationship. According to the defined strategic, GPL determine the skills competencies required to achieve these goals. The assessment from the Employee Development Dialogue (EDD) enables them to identify the gaps between the current and required skills and ensure appropriate training is available, either from the Grundfos Academy or another parties. EDD completed annually in the form of 1:1 meeting with the line manager, with a mid-year review to check the progress, topics discussed are performance evaluation, target development, skills gap analysis and training needs. GPL use different channels to communicate with their employees, including direct discussion, INSITE, the annual conference, the work council, meetings and notice boards. All employees are eligible for either individual bonuses or team reward. The bonuses are based on their performance against objectives. 4.2 Embed a quality culture in an organisation to ensure continuous monitoring and development. (A.C 4-2) The board directors consider the plan of the quality change as a part of the strategic plan, and the result of implementation and monitoring were included in their quarterly meeting agenda to endorse all employees to achieve the target of the plan. 4.3 Monitor the implementation of a strategic quality change in an organization. (A.C 4-3) Site visits and assessment of the planned criteria show that GPL hasn’t benchmarked and compared their performance with the compotators, while they covered all the planed objectives under the people criterion. 5.1 Evaluate the outcomes of a strategic quality change in an organization. (A.C 5 – 1) As a final evaluation, results of the assessment considered as a tracker to the strategic goal and guarantee that the operation management system align with the planned objectives. That helps the top management to evaluate the business trend to keep GPL on the track to become a â€Å" £200M business†. 5.2 Recommend areas for improvement to a strategic quality change that align with organisational objectives. (A.C 5-2) Continue with monitoring and controlling the implemented criteria. Plan, implement and monitor of implementation all the EFQM Model’s criteria to sustain the outstanding level of performance and reinforce a culture of excellence of GPL’s people References Kumar, S Suresh, N. Science of Microwave Heating :: microwave oven

The microwave oven, a tool that we use often in our busy lives to heat up foods when we just don't have the time or patience for a conventional oven to do its work. How does this device work? It's pretty simple if we use the basics of physics to explain it. Vibrations from the high frequency radio waves cause the water and fat cells in food to generate heat through friction of the molecules. An example of this using a turkey shows the molecules positive and negative particles acting through these vibrations to cause friction. J. Carlton Gallawa -- http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/howcook.html "In microwave cooking, the radio waves penetrate the food and excite water and fat molecules pretty much evenly throughout the food. There is no "heat having to migrate toward the interior by conduction". There is heat everywhere all at once because the molecules are all excited together. There are limits of course. Radio waves penetrate unevenly in thick pieces of food (they don't make it all the way to the middle), and there are also "hot spots" caused by wave interference, but you get the idea. The whole heating process is different because you are "exciting atoms" rather than "conducting heat"." -- Howstuffworks.com From Wikipedia.org: "Microwaves, also known as Super High Frequency (SHF) signals, have wavelengths approximately in the range of 30 cm (1 GHz) to 1 mm (300 GHz)." and "A microwave oven uses a magnetron microwave generator to produce microwaves at a frequency of approximately 2.4 GHz for the purpose of cooking food. Microwaves cook food by causing molecules of water and other compounds to vibrate. The vibration creates heat which warms the food. Since organic matter is made up primarily of water, food is easily cooked by this method." From http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/howcook.html: "Microwaves possess three basic characteristics: * Just as sunlight shines through a window, microwaves pass right through some materials. Materials such as glass, paper, and plastic are transparent to and generally unaffected by microwaves. * Microwaves are reflected by metal surfaces, much as a ball would bounce off a wall. The metal walls of the cooking space actually form a cavity resonator. In other words, the enclosure is designed to resonate the microwaves as they are radiated from the magnetron tube. The principle of resonance may be illustrated using sound waves. When a piano key is struck, it produces sound vibrations or sound waves. Sometimes a note is played on a piano, and an object across the room, perhaps a wineglass, can be heard vibrating and producing the same sound.

Donald Duk Essay

Donald Duk is the story of a young man coming to terms of his identity as an American with Chinese descent and heritage. Donald felt that most Americans are prejudiced against Chinese so if he were to become American, he should reject his Chinese identity. Yet, at home, his parents also detest American culture. He began to be interested of his Chinese heritage because of the Central Pacific Railroad, which is a part of the Transcontinental Road built mostly by the Chinese immigrants. Upon reading Donald Duk, the interesting points of research include the immigration of Chinese to the United States, the reaction of Americans to immigration as well as the existence of racism and the way in which new generations of Chinese-Americans deal with issues of culture and identity. The Declaration of Independenc essays

The Declaration of Independenc essays America went through a major transition between the 1760s and 1770s. In the 60s, being an Englishmen was respectable and was wanted by all Americans, but by the 70s, independence from England was deemed necessary. Americans changed from following the crown and all its demands to standing up for their natural rights as free men. What used to be British rights and liberties soon became the natural liberties of mankind. Declaring independence from Great Britain was the only option for America in order to claim these natural rights. The Stamp Act was Great Britains first attempt to take away American liberties. It was met with an outcry for England to repeal the Act. The Act was considered dishonest because it brought about taxation without representation. Because there was no American representation in Parliament, acts that were oppressive towards America were passed easily. At this time, the colonists still referred to themselves as British-Americans. Because Americans were safe under British control, trade was steady, and Great Britain had never tried to impede on their liberties before this Act, most colonists wanted to reconcile their differences with England. All they wanted was a repeal and a repeal did happen, but not without consequences. With the repeal of the Stamp Act came the Declaratory Act. The colonists were pleased that the taxation had bee removed, however, they did not realize the magnitude of the Declaratory Act. The Act states the Kings majesty has full power and authority to make laws and statutes of sufficient force and validity to bind the colonies and people of America, in all cases whatsoever. This was a turning point in American history. Up until this point, Americans had been upset with Great Britain and the Parliament, but had always wished for reconciliation. When the Intolerable Acts were pa ...

Biography of Felipe Caldern

Biography of Felipe Caldern Felipe de Jesà ºs Calderà ³n Hinojosa (1962 - ) is a Mexican politician and former President of Mexico, having been elected in a controversial 2006 election. A member of the PAN (Partido de Accià ³n Nacional/National Action Party) Party, Calderà ³n is a social conservative but a fiscal liberal. Background of Felipe Calderon: Calderà ³n comes from a political family. His father, Luà s Calderà ³n Vega, was one of several founders of the PAN party, at a time when Mexico was basically ruled by one party only, the PRI or Revolutionary Party. An excellent student, Felipe earned degrees in law and economics in Mexico before going to Harvard University, where he received a Masters of Public Administration. He joined the PAN as a young man and quickly proved capable of important posts within the party structure. Calderons Political Career: Calderà ³n served as a representative in the Federal Chamber of Deputies, which is a little like the House of Representatives in United States Politics. In 1995 he ran for governor of the state of Michoacn, but lost to Lzaro Crdenas, another son of a famous political family. He nevertheless went on to national prominence, serving as national chairman for the PAN party from 1996 to 1999. When Vicente Fox (who is also a member of the PAN party) was elected president in 2000, Calderà ³n was appointed to several important posts, including director of Banobras, a state-owned development bank, and Secretary of Energy. Presidential Election of 2006: Calderà ³n’s road to the presidency was a bumpy one. First, he had a falling-out with Vicente Fox, who openly endorsed another candidate, Santiago Creel. Creel later lost to Calderà ³n in a primary election. In the general election, his most serious opponent was Andrà ©s Manuel Là ³pez Obrador, representative of the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD). Calderà ³n won the election, but many of Là ³pez Obrador’s supporters believe that significant election fraud took place. The Mexican Supreme Court decided that President Fox’s campaigning on Calderà ³ns behalf had been questionable, but the results stood. Politics and Policies: A social conservative, Calderà ³n opposed issues such as gay marriage, abortion (including the â€Å"morning-after† pill), euthanasia and contraception education. His administration was fiscally moderate to liberal, however. He was in favor of free trade, lower taxes and privatization of state-controlled businesses. Personal Life of Felipe Calderon: He is married to Margarita Zavala, who herself once served in the Mexican Congress. They have three children, all born between 1997 and 2003. Plane Crash of November 2008: President Calderons efforts to fight organized drug cartels suffered a major setback in November, 2008, when a plane crash killed fourteen people, including Juan Camilo Mourino, Mexicos Secretary of the Interior, and Jose Luis Santiago Vasconcelos, a high-profile prosecutor of drug-related crimes. Although many suspected the accident was the result of sabotage ordered by drug gangs, evidence seems to indicate pilot error. Calderons War on the Cartels: Calderon gained worldwide recognition for his all-out war on Mexicos drug cartels. In recent years, Mexicos powerful smuggling cartels silently shipped tons of narcotics from Central and South America into the US and Canada, making billions of dollars. Other than the occasional turf war, no one heard much about them. Previous administrations had left them alone, letting sleeping dogs lie. But Calderon took them on, going after their leaders, confiscating money, weapons and narcotics and sending army forces to lawless towns. The cartels, desperate, responded with a wave of violence. When Calderons term ended, there was still a stalemate of sorts with the cartels: many of their leaders had been killed or captured, but at a great cost in lives and money for the government. Calderons Presidency: Early on in his presidency, Calderà ³n adopted many of Là ³pez Obrador’s campaign promises, such as a price cap for tortillas. This was seen by many as an effective way to neutralize his former rival and his supporters, who continued to be very vocal. He raised the wages of the armed forces and police while placing a cap on the salaries of high-level civil servants. His relationship with the United States is relatively friendly: he has had several talks with US lawmakers regarding immigration, and ordered the extradition of some drug traffickers that were wanted north of the border. In general, his approval ratings were fairly high among most Mexicans, the exception being those who accused him of election fraud. Calderà ³n staked much on his anti-cartel initiative. His war on the drug lords was well received on both sides of the border, and he forged close ties with the United States and Canada in an effort to combat the cartel operations all over the continent. The continuing violence is a concern - an estimated 12,000 Mexicans died in 2011 in drug-related violence - but many see it as a sign the cartels are hurting. Calderà ³ns term is seen by Mexicans as a limited success, as the economy continued to slowly grow. He will forever be linked with his war on the cartels, however, and Mexicans have mixed feelings about that. In Mexico, presidents may only serve one term, and Calderons came to a close in 2012. In the presidential elections, moderate Enrique Pena Nieto of the PRI won, beating out Là ³pez Obrador and PAN candidate Josefina Vzquez Mota. Pena promised to continue Calderons war on the cartels. Since stepping down as President of Mexico, Calderon has become an outspoken proponent of global action on climate change.

Should Children Be Allowed on Facebook Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Should Children Be Allowed on Facebook - Essay Example The content of the article, which is a rather apprehensive note from a parent’s blog, is able to attract much debate. Two perspectives have been presented; one that children under the age of 13 should not be legally allowed to join Facebook and the other one is that children who do join Facebook under the legal age can be monitored through proper parental surveillance. But the question that arises is that to what extent can the parents monitor a child’s Facebook account? (Dellantonia, 2011). Research shows that children are most likely and the first ones to use technology for morally wrong reasons. And thus, when these young children are exposed to such unlimited freedom, results can be debilitating (Junghyun, 2011). On one hand, it is true that Facebook currently has millions of children lying about their ages on profiles (Dellantonia, 2011) and there is no real way to detect it but if Facebook complies with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, it can still have 13-year-olds join Facebook as that is a profitable opportunity for Facebook, but in that case it will have to invest in developing a system which will require parents’ informed consent before the child joins in and that is not profitable for Facebook (Kashmir, 2011). Even when children do not initiate illegal activity, they are often subjects to the illicit behavioral practices of those with deviant purposes and notorious plans. The young children and young adults continue to be victims of many heinous crimes led through the internet including drug trafficking, bullying, stalking, and pornography (Fodeman, 2009). In Waukesha County, Wisconsin, for example, a boy was convicted of having at least 300 nude photos of boys aged 13 to 19. He posed as a girl on Facebook and used the photos were used to blackmail some of those boys to engage in performing sexual acts with him (Marsico, 2010).

Security Fundamental Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Security Fundamental - Research Paper Example Moreover, by utilizing IPv6 addressing scheme, brute force and other associated probe attacks can be prevented and for private IP addressing scheme, it will not be accessible from the external networks. In order to enforce a strong password policy, easy and guessable passwords must not be set. Moreover, there are certain rules that must be followed such as (Graves, n.d): The password must be kept confidential Password must be updated on periodic basis Password must be difficult to guess Passwords must be alphanumeric Maintaining password history for eliminating old password reusability Enabling Role based Access Control 256 bit encryption for passwords Enable self-password management for resetting and creating own passwords (Kim & Solomon,) one of the most tried and successful attacks for gaining password are brute force attacks, as the attacker tries different passwords until he retrieves the successful password. Likewise, the trend of this attack has forced network security experts to enforce password policies containing all the factors mentioned above. However, a continual improvement cycle is required for a sustainable password policy management system within the organization. After discussing the password policy, authentication is also an essential component for granting access to genuine users on data and servers. As per the scenario, a triple factor authentication model will be recommended. Likewise, a combination of password and access code is required to gain access to data and networks. Some of the examples include fingerprints or voice recognition along with password or retina scan with password. Moreover, for addressing repudiation issues, digital signatures can be used that will be provided by the third party i.e. Certificate Authority. A digital signature is simply a message that is digitally signed by the sender’s private key and can only be verified by anyone who possess or has access to the sender’s public key, therefore, proving authenticity that the sender has access to the private key (Argentina, 2009). Similarly, the â€Å"CA certi?cates are digital certi?cates issued by one certi?cation authority (CA) for another CA. CA certi?cate identi?es the certi?cation authority (CA) that issues server and client authentication certi?cates to the servers and clients that request these certi?cates. Because it contains a public key used in digital signatures, it is also referred to as a signature certi?cate. If the CA is a root authority, the CA certi?cate may be referred to as a root certi?cate† (CA certificate.2007). Likewise, certificate Authority framework incorporates entitle management process, self-service management, Delegation of centralized rights to administrative staff, auditing, integration, reporting, scalability options and support for server and hosts. Cost for the Plan The cost that is estimated for this security plan will be around $30000 to $40000. The detail for this estimated amount is dem onstrated below: Cisco Router or Manageable Switch $20,000 to $25,000 Cisco ASA Firewall with Network and Host based Intrusion detection system $10,000 Dell Power Edge Server along with Windows Server 2008 operating system $2000 To sustain and secure data and computer networks of the electronic company, there are other factors that need to be addressed apart

Principles of Effective Offender Intervention

Principles of Effective Offender Intervention Introduction From way back in history, the process of correcting those who were believed to be wrong in a way or another was practiced. Communities are guided by certain morals, and whenever one goes against the morals, it is believed that the person might have a problem and it is only good to deal with the problem before it escalates. People are different; whereas there are people who can change by just being advised to do so, there are some who need intense programs to change. Correcting young ones so that they can be part and parcel of the bigger community is a process that must be guided by principles. The four principles are meant to intervene and help the targeted persons to be better people in the society. The four principles of intervention There are four different principles of intervention that are used in making sure that some of the young law offenders are helped to become better people in the society (Guevara, 2009). The four principles are more in a sequence because one must follow the other if good results are to be achieved. Effecting one principle in the absence of the previous might produce different results which might be opposite of the expectations of the community or the program. For a lot of years, the four principles have been used in many correction facilities, and they have produced tremendous results. Risk principle Offenders are divided into different groups as far as risk is concerned; low-risk and high-risk offenders. Low-risk offenders are offenders who do not pose a great threat to the community as well as to themselves. When it comes to such offenders, all that is needed is minimal coaching or minimal intervention for them to fit back into the community. For example, an offender who has been involved in a quarreling that resulted in violence is not a high-risk offender. The reason for stating so is because the offender might have acted out of frustration but not under motivation or passion. Therefore, the attention and resources needed to bring back such a person on the track are minimal. At the same time, the person is not a threat to him or her life. The second group consists of high-risk offenders. These types of offenders are not only a risk to the community but themselves. When it comes to attending to them, a lot of resources are required. The interventions used must also be in line with their needs. Risk principle calls for prioritization of resources in line with the risk of the offender. For example, a person who possesses a risk to a larger community cannot be treated like a person who possesses lesser risk. The methods of intervention used on a riskier person also differ in some ways (TJRC, 2016). The principle helps in addressing cases with all the seriousness they deserve. The principle is effective and reasonable. For example, a person who is used to involving him or herself in criminal activities needs a more effective intervention method. The reason for doing so is because a lesser effective method cannot help him or her. The intervention methods are not meant to punish but to change. Allowing continuous offenders back to the community with the expectations that he or she will change is not helping him or her in any way. Since he or she has proven to be risky, it is only good to make sure that more resources are used so as to make the intervention effective. Need principle Need principle states that the needs of the offenders should be considered in any given intervention process. The need might be direct or indirect. Some people are forced by circumstances to engage in criminal activities. In most cases, they lack a thing or two, and that is why they end up doing what they do. What they lack is what is referred to as a need. The principle states that for a person not to go back to his or her old ways, the need must be satisfied. A person might end up being a criminal for lack of education and knowledge on certain issues. Taking that person through a correctional facility and bringing him or her back to the society only solves part of the problem. Therefore, it is important to enlighten that person on the issues that he or she might not be familiar with so that he or she cannot go back to his or her old ways. The environment, on the other hand, can influence one towards committing a crime. When the environment of the offender is not looked into, the offender is taken back to the same risks after corrections, and that might not bear the expected results. For example, if a person lives in an environment where people live by the gun and earn from illegal activities, taking him or her back to such an environment is exposing him or her to risks (Edward Jennifer, 2004). The principle is effective because it tries to look for a lasting solution in the process of making sure that an offender gains from an intervention program. Helping people and not looking at what they lacked for them to commit a crime is dealing with the problem partially. The best way to make sure that criminals do not get back to their old ways is dealing with the causes, and that means looking at the needs and satisfying them. Treatment principle The treatment principle emphasizes the need to look for the most effective treatment strategy. The principle concentrates much on the high-risk offenders. An offender must go through some effective treatments for him or her to be accepted back in the community. Factors to consider when it comes to treatment are the type of treatment, the interval of treatment, and the length of the treatment. A person who is of great danger to the community must be treated in a different way. Though the main reason why the offender is taken in a correctional facility is not to be punished, a high-risk offender must be treated in a way that he or she will never admire hurting himself or others. The treatment must be intense and if the need calls it must take a longer period so that he or she can be ready to fit in the community after the treatment. There are different offenders, and they are motivated to engaging in criminal activities by different reasons. Some are criminals because they are failed by their brain. In such cases, the treatment must be special and different from others. Regardless of him being a high-risk offender, the person also has a mental health condition. In such a case, double care is required (Guevara, 2009). The facility or the parties involved might choose to provide both psychiatric help and at the same time correctional help. By so doing, the offender gets his or her sanity back and is helped to avoid getting into trouble shortly. The principle is effective because it considers the nature of the offender. By considering the nature of the offender, it becomes easy to help a person with a series of problems by knowing the best way to treat him or her. Fidelity principle Fidelity principle states that the program must be run by people who follow the rule of law and whose integrity cannot be compromised (Edward Jennifer, 2004). It is important to know that the offenders need help and there is no way of doing it better than taking them through a program. The person running the program should leave the responsibility of correcting to the service providers, and he or she should not be bribed to grant favors to some of the law offenders. The principle is effective because it makes sure that any offender goes through the program and benefits from it without any shortcut. Conclusion The four principles guide offenders towards using the most effective ways in gaining help. At the same time, they guide the service providers towards being effective and taking care of the offenders on humane ways of doing things. Though the four principles have dwelt so much on programs and services, their main aim is to help the law offenders so that they can be people who can be accepted back into the community. They are in place to make sure that most humane means are used to correct the offenders. At the same time, they make sure that each offender is provided with help that is suitable to his or her behaviors. References Edward, J. Jennifer, A. (2004). Essay --

One of the central pillars of American history and idealism is the concept of manifest destiny. Which according to the Random House Dictionary is the nineteenth century belief and doctrine of the United States, that it was their God given destiny to expand its territory over North America, thereby enhancing their sovereignty and increasing their political, economic and social influence on the world stage. This term was not created until later in the century, post Lewis and Clark expedition. However it was most certainly one of the main goals of the expedition. Lewis and Clark were not the first group of white men to explore areas of the west, though none were quite as influential or as important to supporting manifest destiny. However these two explorers, Lewis and Clark not only supported manifest density, they also made significant contributions to scientific and cartographical knowledge of the western frontier. Their voyage across the United States stands out from other explorati ons of the west, due to the numerous journals that Lewis and Clark as well as their expedition team wrote in, almost every day. These journals represent first hand records of everything they encountered, thus preserving their journey for hundreds of years to come and allowing for their additions to the scientific community of the United States to be preserved. When Thomas Jefferson was elected as the third President of the United States in 1801, the majority of the population lived within a fifty-mile radius of the Atlantic Ocean, very little was known about the west. Though what was known was grossly outdated information from the French traders as well as British and Spanish explores in the earlier centuries. Jefferson was a vast believer and suppor... ... as set out by President Jefferson there were many. Not only did they alter the face of this rapidly changing country and its imperial struggle for control over North America, more specifically the Pacific Northwest and the Louisiana Territory. It greatly strengthened the United States claims in these areas through numerous peaceful encounters with the indigenous peoples and tribes, which allowed for increased interest in the American commercial front, which was the fur trade. Their expedition also led to an increase in various explorations and exploitations in the direction of the West. The duo also made incredible advancements in the geographic and topographical knowledge of the Upper Missouri, producing various maps as well as notes on the areas they traversed. Which would kick start the net centuries great migration of American people in to the west.

My ecological footprint

My ecological footmark per centum is 70.82 % . We would necessitate 4.51 Earths if everyone had the life style that I lead. The consequences made me experience concerned because my footmark is below norm by about 20 per centum, which seems like a batch to me. I was surprised that my consequences were so hapless because I think of myself as person who is environmentally witting. I do non litter by throwing refuse on the street. If a refuse can is non handily located by me, I carry the refuse with me until I can happen a refuse can. Because of small things like this, I was surprised that my ecological footmark is so low. That is why I think this was a worthwhile assignment because it educated me about how environmentally friendly I am. I would realistically cut down my footmark by about 25 % by utilizing cleaner conveyance. Normally I drive whenever I need to travel someplace, but I think from now on whenever possible, I will take the Metro Transit coach alternatively. I think that resource depletion is likely to increase as Developing Countries effort to increase their criterion of life. The state where I am from, a underdeveloped state, Yemen, does non hold as big an ecological footmark as Canada does. In our metropoliss, autos are used a batch but in the countryside, people uses Equus caballuss and camels as their chief manner of transporting themselves. Yemen is seeking to go more developed like the West, but so far it has non worked out that good. Originally, because Yemen started out as a land, merely the King had a auto but over clip, as it became a democracy, autos became more common as mundane people began driving them in the metropoliss. I think that as Yemen seeks to go more like the Western universe, particularly the United States, resource depletion will go more marked. Developing States should non hold the right to consume resources merely to go more like the West, because that will do merely the state of affairs with the environment worse as clip goes on. If every state has a big ecological footmark, so we will progressively necessitate more Earths to fulfill everyone ‘s energy ingestion. The article, found onhypertext transfer protocol: //www.edie.net/news/news_story.asp? id=16168. says that people in Europe are trusting excessively much on groundwater. If this continues, so the H2O supply could go a job. If that happens, the monetary value of H2O will travel up, and this will be bad for the universe economic system because everyone needs H2O. If people who need it can non afford to pay for it, so that could be an economic, every bit good as environmental, catastrophe. The root cause of this job is that people are trusting excessively much on groundwater. We can cut down our footmark as states by doing certain that some people do non acquire excess H2O, while others go without.MentionsRetrieved online on May 18, 2009 at hypertext transfer protocol: //www.edie.net/news/news_story.asp? id=16168

Why Do NaNoWriMo

Why Do NaNoWriMo For half a million writers worldwide the month of November is NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). As a  NaNoWriMo  mentor and writer its the highlight of my writing year. Have you considered it? The NaNoWriMo challenge to write 50,000 words in 30 days began in 1999. Its a non-profit effort run mostly for Elephants">Water for Elephants. The regions are supported Is there a prize? No. NaNoWrio isnt a writing competition, its a creative challenge. Its benefits include discounts on writing tools, bragging rights, improved writing resume, increased creativity, finding a local writing community, and most importantly, a first draft of your book. Does it have to be in November? November doesnt suit everybody. You could try  Camp NaNo. It runs in April and July and is a smaller event with more flexible targets. I used it to start a short fiction collection. Others complete a novel, edit a book, or write a script – your choice. Is there a cost? No, it runs on writer donations. Is it possible? Yes, but must commit to it. Statistically 17 percent  of writers finish NaNoWriMo but weve pushed that to 40 percent in my region thanks to advance preparation. Telling your friends and family gives you cheerleaders. Planning your plot and  characters and doing some research helps you face the blank page. Scheduling two hours for writing daily will keep you on track. Freezing dinners and turning off the TV will create writing time. When struggling to meet my word count I hand the WiFi router to my husband. Will it get me published? No, but its a start. My small region now has several published writers who still participate in NaNo annually. One poet self-published her collection and runs the poetry performances in the regional arts festival. A romance novelist has her first childrens book out. A zombie-thriller writer is a national novel contest finalist. What you do with your book after NaNoWriMo is up to you, but meeting other writers is inspirational. Why bother? I get asked this often and I have many answers. Writing a book in November gives me work to edit and submit for the rest of the year. Writing daily (as Hope recommends) gives  me a more professional approach to my work. NaNoWriMo encourages  me to try new genres and restored the fun in my writing. I meet other writers and built a year-round network. NaNoWriMo provides plenty of support apart from your local mentor. Theres a blog and published authors interact and inspire via  #NaNoCoach. The discounts on writing tools are hand,  and I enjoy my winners certificates and web-badges. Exclusive pep talks from bestsellers like  Neil Gaiman,  Diana Gabaldon, and  John Green  are fantastic. First-timers worry about the deadline but shouldnt. Even if you dont reach 50,000 words you will definitely write more than normally that you would otherwise in November. If you prefer to write plays, poetry or short fiction, join us anyhow. You get a cool title – NaNoRebel. If you write, youre welcome. This November consider becoming participant 500,001.
